The Art of Zoe Nicholson

Liminal spaces are interstitial transformative spaces. They are the in-between spaces where one is immersed in chaos yet, at the same time, full of potential. A liminal space is the marriage ceremony, a religious ritual, or a right of passage. Life is liminal.

The work illustrates the liminal space, with the accompanying transformation and growth of the individual using the grid as a metaphor. The underlying grid structure for each series is the same, yet each grid is different, which illustrates the essential underlying biology of each person while conveying individual identities.

Each piece is the result of continued research and, as a result, the series will evolve as a reflection of continued growth and learning.

Ultimately, the work conveys the hope, anxiety, potential of the human spirit and self.
